Group Size & Personalization

What size group can I bring on a private tour?

We strive to create high-quality personal experiences so our tours usually work best with up to 10 guests. But if you have a larger group reach out and we can discuss our best options to tailor a custom itinerary for you.

Can I customize the walking pace or route?

Absolutely. Because all of our experiences are custom made, the pace, distance, and topic focus (from birdwatching to park history to photography) are tailored entirely to your preferences and physical comfort levels discussed prior to our meeting.

Are dogs and pets allowed on the tour?

We love animals! However, because our tours can pass through sensitive bird-nesting sanctuaries, protected nature reserves, or non-dog-friendly garden spaces, pets are generally not permitted unless explicitly arranged in advance or for certified service animals.

What to Bring & Weather

What should I wear and bring with me?

To ensure a comfortable experience, we recommend arriving prepared with the following:

  • Comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes or supportive sneakers with good traction
  • A refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the walk
  • Weather-appropriate layers (jackets, umbrellas, or sun protection depending on the season)
  • Snacks and a camera are also great optional additions!

We provide specialized tools required for specific themes (such as binoculars for birding or field guides for plant ID).

What happens in case of bad weather?

Tours run rain or shine! However, in cases of severe weather—such as heavy downpours, high winds, or dangerous temperatures—we will contact you to reschedule or offer a full refund.

Rates, Payment & Cancellations

How do payments work?

Private custom tours start at $190 per group and increase depending on group size and tour length. Once we confirm your preferred date, location, and theme, an electronic invoice will be sent to complete your booking securely via credit card before your tour date.

What is your cancellation policy?

Full refunds are provided for cancellations made at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled tour time. Cancellations made within 48 hours can be rescheduled for a future date subject to availability.

Walking Environment & Liability

What should I expect regarding the walking environment in NYC?

New York City is a busy urban landscape. Walking tours can involve navigating busy public streets, sidewalk traffic, crosswalks, uneven pavement, cobblestones, steps, and natural park terrain such as dirt paths, gravel, or stone slopes.

Participants are expected to exercise personal awareness and caution at all times. You are responsible for watching your step, obeying traffic signals, staying aware of surrounding city hazards, and dressing appropriately for weather conditions.

What is the liability policy for walking tours?

By booking and participating in a tour, all participants acknowledge and accept the inherent risks of outdoor walking activities across urban streets and city parks. Participants agree that they are physically capable of completing the walk and assume full personal responsibility for their own safety and personal property.

Participation constitutes an agreement to hold "appreciating this", its owners, and individual tour guides harmless from any liability, injury, illness, loss, or damage that may occur during or in connection with the experience.

What is expected regarding guest conduct?

We expect all guests to practice respectful, responsible behavior toward nature, wildlife, public urban spaces, and fellow travelers. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for reckless, disruptive, or dangerous behavior to preserve a safe and peaceful environment for everyone.
